Isle of Mull’s wildlife and breathtaking scenery bring many visitors to the island again and again.
Its spectacular mountains, coastline and idyllic beaches bring you close to nature. And its skies, seas, hills and mountains are alive with many special species of birds, animals and mammals, from puffins and seals to whales and eagles.
Isle of Mull wildlife is now a big attraction in its own right and the island has a deserved repuation as one of the top wildlife destinations in the UK. And Mull holiday cottage Traigh Mhor offers you a ringside seat!
It’s a great place to see porpoises, dolphins and whales as well as golden eagles and sea eagles.
And don’t forget the Highland Cattle and the wild goats.
Minke Whales are commonly seen in these waters, there are also regular sightings of basking sharks and killer whales. The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust, based in Tobermory, pioneers locally based conservation and helps raise awareness in schools, as well as conducting research.
The Trust ‘s website lists recent sightings and enables the public to report any encounter.
There are a number of whale-watching trips available on the island and April-October offers plenty of opportunities to spot them because the waters are rich with food.
Alternatively, you can chose a Mull wildlife tour by 4 x 4 on the island’s rugged terrain. Look out for deer, seals, and otters and of course, birds of prey including Mull’s famous Sea Eagles.
