TV Chef James Martin is a fan of Mull’s Inverlussa Shellfish.
The Loch Spelve mussel business has featured in Martin’s BBC series Home Comforts, under the theme Friday Night Suppers.
The loch’s remote location, with virtually no human habitation around, usually gets an A classification for its shellfish growing waters. And because there is very little mixing between the full salinity salt water and the fresh water from the mountains, Loch Spelve mussels are known for their sweet, fresh and salty taste.
The farm produces up to 500 tonnes of mussels a year and is a supply member of the Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group co-operative,whose customers include Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s, Asda, Lidl, and Aldi.
If you’re passing through on the way to Tobermory or Craignure, why not try them for yourselves?
