Ben More, Isle of Mull

Ben More, Isle of Mull’s highest peak, is the only island Munro (Scottish mountain over 3,000 ft) outside Skye.

And from Mull holiday cottage Traigh Mhor near Bunessan, it’s an easy drive if you want to tackle the climb.

At 3169ft (966m), this extinct volcano offers breathtaking views on a clear day. On a good day you can see the Cullins on Skye, Ben Nevis on the mainland and south to Jura. On a great day you can see Ireland and the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides.

The most direct route to Ben More is from Loch na Keal at Dhiseig. Starting at sea-level, this offers a track most of the way. The final part of the ascent crosses scree slopes.

Allow 4-6 hours to the top and back.

Please note: the weather can be changeable. Go well equipped with essential supplies, warm clothing, waterproofs and good footwear. Check out the Mountain Weather Information Service.
