Growing tea on Mull

Liz and Martyn Gibson are growing tea on their 10-acre Mull croft.  And if that wasn’t impressive enough, their first crop  – Isle of Mull “Scottish Antlers” Stem Tea  – was given to US President Barack Obama by First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon during her visit to the States.

The couple – Rev Liz is  a Church of Scotland minister and Martyn a tour guide at Duart Castle – have 100 tea bush plants on their sustainable croft, protected as much as possible from the wind.

Helped by Tam O’Braan, who runs the Wee Tea Plantation on the Dalreoch estate in Perthshire, and is developing the Scottish tea industry, the Gibsons are now growing matcha tea – a type of refined, green powdered tea.
